Colorado Concealed Carry Permit

• An applicant must be a resident of Kiowa County. If you live out of the County check with your local Sheriff to verify they will accept an out of County course before enrolling with us.
• Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older or at least 18 years of age if seeking a temporary, emergency permit.
• Must be able to successfully complete extensive background investigations.
• Submit proof of completion of a firearm safety or training course or class.
• Provide a copy of current Colorado Driver’s License, Colorado ID, or Military ID and Duty Orders.
• The course will cover the required information required to obtain a Concealed Weapon Permit in the State of Colorado.
• This Class includes range shooting. (50 rounds for renewal and full course)
• The class is focused on the LAWS of carrying, using and other laws centered on carrying a weapon.
• Upon completion of the application, you must call the Sheriff’s Office, at (719) 438-5411, to schedule an appointment to have your picture and fingerprints taken. If you live out of County the same steps will apply with your local Sheriff’s Office.
• Processing time is usually around 9 weeks depending on turnaround time of the background investigation. Times may vary for out of County residents.
• A $152.50 processing fee in the form of a cashier’s check or money order, made payable to the Kiowa County Sheriff Office  must be submitted with your application. This fee pays for a state and national criminal history check (fingerprints) and for an Insta-check (NICS) per statute. This fee also pays for forms, ID cards, local criminal history checks, and administrative costs and processing fees to Kiowa County Sheriff Office.  This is required for all regular civilian applicants.
• For renewals a $35.00 fee in the form of a cashier’s check or money order, made payable to the Kiowa County Sheriff Office must be submitted with your application. 
• All permits are valid for a period of 5 years from the date of issuance but can be revoked at any time for misuse.
• The states that currently have reciprocity with Colorado are Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wyoming.
• If you move, within 30 days after a permit holder in all instances changes the address specified on his or her permit the permitted shall notify the issuing Sheriff of the change of address and will need to fill out the proper change of address form which needs to be notarized.
• If you lose your permit, it gets stolen or damaged you have three business days after a permit is lost, stolen or damaged, shall notify the issuing Sheriff. The permit holder may be issued a new permit upon submittal of a notarized statement to the issuing Sheriff that the permit was lost, stolen or destroyed.
